In this work, I have been exploring different ways to use the paint - wet, damp, dry, thick, thin, hard-edged and precise, loose and expressive.
I often strive for lively brushstrokes that have a gestural quality of their own. The subject is never as critical as this process of seeing deeply and using my feelings, memories, current skills and this fluid medium to interpret reality.
All of these paintings were done from life as opposed to photographs, and I think they have retained their aliveness because of that direct translation.
