These images are from the "The Enchanted Forest", a series of intimate landscapes photographed during my own healing journey. These photographs are my souvenirs.
I committed to walking in the woods every day, wherever I was, for an entire year. Ten years later, I still do this often.
At the beginning of each walk, I would pray and ask what the woods might have to teach me. Answers often came — in the form of a pattern of leaves on the surface of a pond; the song of a stream; a particular ice formation or a figure created by the branches of a dead tree. I was continually drawn to water, and would often stand by streams, imagining the clarifying waters running through my body, cleansing me. In this state of heightened awareness, I was shown little pieces of magic.
I believe this magic is abundantly available to anyone who takes the time to enter the woods as one would enter a chapel. All that is needed is to suspend the chatter of the mind, to walk slowly, and stop often.
